A skydiving plane crashed Sunday morning near Butler, Missouri, killing all 12 people on board — 11 skydivers and the pilot — about 65 miles south of Kansas City.
The aircraft, a Pacific Aerospace P750, went down at approximately 11:35 a.m. on Sunday, June 14, while departing Butler Memorial Airport, according to the Federal Aviation Administration. The Missouri State Highway Patrol confirmed all occupants died, posting on social media: “Troopers are on scene assisting the Butler Police Department & Bates County Sheriff’s Office of a Fatal Plane Crash near the Butler Memorial Airport. At this time reports indicate all occupants (12 total) have perished.”
Some victims’ family members were at the airport and watched the plane go down. That’s according to Bates County Sheriff Chad Anderson, who spoke to the Associated Press. Clergy and volunteers arrived at the scene to support relatives while authorities worked to identify the dead.
The cause of the crash isn’t known. The National Transportation Safety Board has opened an investigation.
