Mississippi State Softball Reaches First Women’s College World Series

By ยท 16 seconds ago

Mississippi State softball did something this spring it had never done before โ€” reached the Women’s College World Series, a milestone the program itself called “unthinkable.”

The Bulldogs’ first WCWS appearance came at the end of a 2026 season that, by the program’s own account, exceeded every expectation set before the first pitch. The Clarion-Ledger reported on the run Friday, May 30.

What the season meant to the program wasn’t spelled out in precise numbers. No specific win total, no individual stats, no coach’s name on record. What was clear is that the phrase the team reached for โ€” “unthinkable” โ€” wasn’t false modesty.

Mississippi State competes in the SEC, a conference that regularly sends multiple programs deep into the NCAA tournament. Getting to Oklahoma City, where the WCWS is held, means beating some of the best rosters in the country just to get to the bracket. The Bulldogs got there.

Whether the program can build on this run โ€” and what roster pieces return โ€” hasn’t been announced.
