Iowa held primary elections Tuesday, June 3, setting the lineups for what are expected to be contested fall races — one for U.S. Senate, one for governor.
On the Senate side, Democratic state Rep. Josh Turek will square off against Republican U.S. Rep. Ashley Hinson in November. Hinson already holds federal office; Turek will be trying to pull that seat to the Democratic column.
The governor’s race
For governor, Democrat Rob Sand — Iowa’s state auditor — won his primary and will face Republican businessman Zach Lahn in the general election. Sand brings a statewide office to his résumé. Lahn comes from the private sector. Neither has held the governorship before.
The four nominees — Turek, Hinson, Sand, and Lahn — now have until November to make their cases to Iowa voters. No general-election debate schedule or campaign finance totals were immediately available from the NPR report.
