Bill Gates Tells House Oversight Committee He Didn’t Know of Epstein’s Crimes

By ยท 1 month ago

Bill Gates told lawmakers Tuesday, June 10, that he had no knowledge of Jeffrey Epstein’s crimes โ€” his first formal accounting before Congress of a relationship that has drawn scrutiny for years.

Gates sat for a closed-door interview with the House Oversight Committee about his ties to Epstein, the convicted sex offender who died in a Manhattan federal jail in 2019 while awaiting trial on federal sex trafficking charges.

The session wasn’t public. No transcript was released Tuesday, and what committee members asked Gates โ€” or how far he went in his answers โ€” wasn’t immediately available from the panel.

Gates has previously acknowledged meeting with Epstein on multiple occasions but has said those meetings were a mistake. His relationship with Epstein became a flashpoint after Epstein’s 2019 arrest, with reporting raising questions about how long the two men stayed in contact and what Gates knew about Epstein’s conduct toward women and girls.

The House Oversight Committee has been reviewing documents and interviewing witnesses connected to Epstein as part of a broader congressional push โ€” driven in part by Attorney General Pam Bondi โ€” to make Epstein-related records public. Whether Gates will be called back for additional questioning, or whether the committee intends to release a summary of Tuesday’s interview, hasn’t been announced.
