A senior from David Thibodaux STEM Magnet Academy has been named Louisiana’s top boys soccer player, the Lafayette Parish School System announced Sunday, June 15.
LPSS โ which oversees schools in Lafayette Parish โ released the news, though the district didn’t identify the player by name in its public announcement. The recognition represents the highest individual honor a boys soccer player can receive at the state level.
The award
Details on which state body confers the award and what criteria were used โ goals, assists, defensive record, coach votes โ weren’t included in the district’s release. LPSS hasn’t released further information as of Sunday afternoon.
David Thibodaux, a STEM-focused magnet school in Lafayette, doesn’t field a traditional varsity sports program in the same structure as most Louisiana high schools, which makes the recognition stand out. The player’s name and any plans for a formal ceremony haven’t been announced.
