Texas adds Saint Mary’s catcher Ian Armstrong via transfer portal

By · 4 weeks ago

The University of Texas baseball program has added catcher Ian Armstrong from Saint Mary’s College through the transfer portal, the program announced Sunday, June 22.

Armstrong spent time behind the plate at Saint Mary’s — a West Coast Conference program based in Moraga, California — before entering the portal and committing to Texas. The move gives the Longhorns another option at a position that demands both defensive reliability and bat-handling behind a pitching staff.

Transfer portal activity in college baseball has accelerated sharply since the NCAA expanded eligibility windows, and Texas has been active in using it to fill roster gaps after the draft and graduation losses each spring. Armstrong’s addition fits that pattern.

No stats, scholarship details, or eligibility years remaining were immediately available for Armstrong. Texas hasn’t announced which season he would be eligible to play.
