Julia Letlow won the Republican Senate runoff in Louisiana, her campaign backed by President Donald Trump heading into the contest.
The result was called Sunday, June 29, 2026. Letlow had entered the race with Trump’s endorsement already in hand โ and it held.
Letlow, a Republican from northeast Louisiana, had already made history once before. She was elected to the U.S. House in 2021 after her husband, Luke Letlow, died of COVID-19 complications before he could be sworn in to the seat he had just won. She had been serving in Congress since then.
The Senate seat she now appears headed to win had been held by John Kennedy. No Democratic opponent has been named in available results; Louisiana’s jungle primary system means she likely secured the Republican nomination in a field that was sorted before a runoff between the top finishers.
Trump’s grip on Louisiana Republican primary politics showed again here. His endorsement had already proved decisive in a string of down-ballot races across the state in recent cycles, and Letlow’s win adds another data point to that pattern.
What the general election matchup looks like โ and when it’s scheduled โ hadn’t been confirmed as of Sunday evening.
