New Mexico State’s men’s basketball program is scheduled to open the 2026-27 season on the road, traveling to Gonzaga on Friday, Nov. 7, according to a report published Friday by The Spokesman-Review.
The game would also serve as Gonzaga’s home opener โ though the report characterized that detail as still tentative. Neither program had confirmed the matchup publicly as of Friday afternoon.
The matchup
Gonzaga plays its home games in Spokane, Washington, and typically opens its schedule against mid-major opponents before conference play begins in late November. New Mexico State, an independent in men’s basketball after leaving the WAC, has built its nonconference slate around exactly those kinds of road trips against high-major programs.
A Nov. 7 date would put the game among the first weekend of play under NCAA rules for the new season. Whether it counts as an exhibition or a regular-season contest wasn’t specified in the report.
No tip-off time, television arrangement, or official announcement from either school has been released.
