Two former UConn stars are back in Connecticut — this time wearing the visiting team’s colors.
Paige Bueckers and Azzi Fudd, both now with the Dallas Wings, returned to the state Wednesday, July 2, when the Wings visited the Connecticut Sun. For Bueckers and Fudd, it’s a homecoming of sorts; both played their college basketball at the University of Connecticut in Storrs before heading to the WNBA.
Neither player needs much introduction to Connecticut crowds. Bueckers spent four seasons at UConn and was among the most decorated players in program history before Dallas selected her. Fudd, her longtime teammate with the Huskies, joined her with the Wings. Facing the Sun — a franchise that draws heavily from that same fan base — puts both players on the opposite side of a complicated loyalty test.
The Sun, who play their home games at Mohegan Sun Arena in Uncasville, figure to see a crowd with divided allegiances. Connecticut fans who followed Bueckers and Fudd through four years of college basketball now have to pick a side.
