Brendan Sorsby is headed to the NFL Supplemental Draft after departing Texas Tech, USA Today reported Monday, June 16.
Sorsby’s move to the supplemental process comes after he and the Red Raiders parted ways โ though the terms of that separation weren’t immediately detailed in the report. The NFL Supplemental Draft gives players who become ineligible or leave school outside the normal signing period a path to a roster spot; any team that uses a pick on a supplemental selection forfeits that same round’s choice in the following year’s regular draft.
Sorsby had been competing for playing time in Lubbock. His departure leaves Texas Tech needing to sort out its depth at quarterback heading into fall camp.
Whether any NFL team will spend a pick on Sorsby โ and in which round โ won’t be known until the league conducts the supplemental process. The NFL hasn’t announced a date for this year’s supplemental draft.
