UAW members went on strike at an American Axle & Manufacturing plant in Michigan on Sunday, June 1, the latest labor action to hit the state’s auto supply chain.
American Axle โ known in the industry as AXL โ makes driveline and drivetrain components for major automakers. A work stoppage there can back up production lines quickly, depending on which parts the affected plant supplies and to whom.
The UAW didn’t immediately release the number of workers involved, and neither the union nor the company had publicly posted strike demands as of the report. What triggered the walkout โ contract talks, a safety dispute, or something else โ wasn’t confirmed in early coverage.
Michigan has been a recurring battleground for UAW actions since the union’s successful 2023 contract campaign against the Detroit Three. American Axle isn’t one of those automakers, but a prolonged strike at a key supplier can still reach the assembly plant floor fast.
The UAW and American Axle haven’t announced any scheduled talks. No return-to-work date has been set.
